Classification and nomenclature of Diatomite

Diatomite belongs to Siliceous Rock, and siliceous rocks are divided into two kinds: biological or biochemical Genesis-diatomite, plate-like diatomite, protein soil, radioactive-rock, sponge rock.

Non-biological Genesis (chemical, volcanism, secondary Genesis)-Jasper Rock, Flint, silica, quartzite.

The main associated minerals in diatomite are clay minerals and carbonaceous (organic matter), and when these mineral content reaches more than 50%, it belongs to Clay Rock and carbonaceous shale, which is named as Diatom X-x Rock. When the mineral content is less than 50%, it is diatomite and is named as X-X diatomite.
